What is JIS (Japan Industrial Standard)?
Japan Industrial Standard is shorten by JIS, is the standard record was built and standarlized by Japan Industrial Standard Comitttee and was published through Japan Standard Association, applied for many fields in industry.
History
In Meiji period, private enterprises built and summarized the standard for the products which they produced by themselves, although Government has built the basic standard for trading goods, especially weapon and bullet…All standards have been summerized in one record called Japan Technical Standard in 1921.
After World War II, Japan Standard Association was estabished. In 1946, new standards of Japan Industrial Standard Committee were updated and published. In 2004, the law of Japan Industrial Standardization was amended. Logo of JIS was changed on October 1 2005 but the transition from old logo to new one was officially finsihed on September 30 2008 and the new logo has been using from October 1 2008.
Classification and Numbering
The standard was classified by format: JIS A xxxx:xxxx, therein:
JIS: Japan Industrial Standard
A: the first letter of industry (by Japanese)
xxxx: the products of industry
xxxx: the year pulished or amended standard
For example: JIS B 7516:2005: Metal Standard
